Could have been better December 21, 2007 Ok, I know this has been said NUMEROUS times, yet here it is again: its not Nobou Uematsu, but its good. Actually, to me it was just OK. For what its worth, I did like the music enough to buy the CD, but I only really like about half of the CD. The music isnt BAD, its just that its the type of score that doesnt sound as good outside the game as it would when you are playing it. I think this can be attributed to the fact that this guy is a newbie to the FF music production, and obviously he has sizable shoes to fill in Uematsu's absence. Truth be told, this is pretty good for a first effort, but in the end, the music just didnt live up to the legacy left behind by Uematsu. There are definaly some good, stand out tracks on this CD, theres no question about that. I especially like listening to the newly composed scores to Guadosalam, Mt. Gagazet, Besaid, and a good few of the action tacks.
Obviously, you should buy this CD at your own discretion. If you are a true and faithful Final Fantasy fan, and a lover of its music, then you should have this in your collection just for the hell of it. There is enough here to keep you at least mildly satisfied. However, if your a super hardcore Nobou Uematsu fan (meaning you wont like it unless its him) then i wouldnt suggest you buying this one, because you might end up being mad that you did.
The True Essence of A Final Fantasy Soundtrack April 10, 2007 Personally, I have nothing against ANY of the reviews I read but I don't think anyone really has a very consistent opinion about this soundtrack. Basically, it is what it is. A video game soundtrack. Which means, that every song will be entirely related to the events presented throughout the song. We cannot even begin to compare this soundtrack to the one from the previous Final Fantasy because the composers are different. We cannot compare Uematsu's work to these newcomers, who by the way, did an excellent job in delivering a new fresh sound, and took a big risk evolving the sound us gamers of Final Fantasy are used to. It was a bold move, a solid effort and a big sucess. It is a jewel to add to your collection of soundtracks if you wish. You would not regret, but truth be told, it is music that is solely different to anything you have ever heard before.
Not Uematsu (tired line, I know), and just not that great August 11, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Matsueda and Eguchi give the untraditional sequel an untraditional sound, which was nice in a way. However, the new sound isn't usually as good or well-written as Nobuo Uematsu's sound. Something I HATED about the music is that it doesn't use any of the themes from FFX! Even the tune of "Suteki Da Ne" just a few times would make me much happier. And it's not just the failed use of themes from X, it's no traditional themes from any of the Final Fantasy games. The music was a little too different. Aside from that, the music is actually fairly good for the most part. The songs performed by Kumi Koda, 1,000 Words (Sen no Kotoba) and real Emotion (Kanjo Genjitsu), are by far the best. Her voice sounds very American, but she is still a great Japanese (Nihonjin) singer. These tracks get five out of five. There are far too many boring fillers, however, and the genre doesn't change enough; most of the filler tracks are upbeat Jazzy/70s sounding. There are some more great pieces, such as the orchestral "Epilogue - A Reunion" and "FFX-2 Ending Theme," as well as several good background songs that give this soundtrack three out of five. It's not necessarily that the music isn't Uematsu, but that the music just isn't as good as his. Still good though, and worth the Import King's low price.

Beautiful! November 29, 2005 8 out of 13 found this review helpful
Well, I must say, when I heard the music of FFX i loved it. So I bought it. Then I played FFX-2 music was more up beat, FFX was haunting. FFX-2 has some really great songs, no one has done this, but I will:
1. Memories of waves and light 1000/5 The best song ever. Even better then FFX's title song. This song really gets you in the mood for pkaying it. It really focases on what is happining in the game.
2.Real Emotion ( Sung by Kumi Koda, not Sweetbox )4/5 At first I did not like someone singing this song other then Sweetbox, but Kumi does a good job. It is sung in japanesse.
3.YRP fight #1. 4/5 Played at when you have to fight Lebalnc when she is dressed like Yuna. Kinda of a disco song, really good song. Makes you want to dance. : )
4. Yuna's theme 2/5 I'm sorry I was expecting something quite better for Yuna's theme. Okay....
5. YRP fight #2 ...... I cannot remember this song right now.. it was okay....
6. Mission Complete 3/5 This song really got on my nerves.
7. We're the Gullwings!!! 5/5 I love this song!!! It is really fun! Main theme to the celsis
8.Mission start. 1/5 ANNOYING!!!!!!
9. Mt. Gagazat. 5/5 This song really brings out the power of the Ronso. Drums make a suprise.
10. YRP FIGHT #3 2/5 Annoying also. Really ear spilliting at the beggining.
11. Game over 2/5 I liked FFX'S game over better, it seemed to say.. Try again! While this one says... You will never win!
12. Anything goes for Lebalnc! 5/5 My fav. song after memories of waves and light. Really cool song. Diffrent thenm the rest, cannot describe it.
13. Let me blow you a kiss! ; ) 4/5 Okay..... Um played when you fight Leblanc, Logos, and Ormi. This song was annoying cuz I could never win the battle! But.. cool song AFTER i won it. : )
14. Shuyin's Theme 4/5 Haunting and eerie. Of course Shuyin is kinda supposed to be haunting.
15. Besaid. 4/5 Piano played. I liked FFX'S Besaid better. It was up beat. And really captured Besaid. Now this Besaid also captured Yuna's fellings toward Besaid. I just liked FFX's up beatness.
16. Killaka. 3/5 Um just okay.
17. Luca 4/5 Really up beat!!! I liked it.
18. The Mi'hin Higroad. 1/5 I cannot tell you how annoying this is. Think The telletubbies singing a duet with Barney. Yeah, that annoying.
19. Mushroom rock road. No comment
20. The Youth League 4/5 A really powerfull song!! You cannot really truely seem to like it though.

25. Bikinal Dessert. 4/5 Kinda of a rock song? Um, really diffrent.
26. New Yevon 5/5 Powerful also. It has tons of Aisan infulance in it.
27. The calm lands. 3/5 Okay song.
28. Zanarakand Ruins. 100/5 My 2nd fav. song!!! Yeo beats Anything goes for Lebalnc to 3rd. This really captures Zanarkand. The falling ruins, and Yuna's feelings toward Him and Zanarkand. Beautiful.
29. Sphere Hunters? ...... No comment. Can't remember if that is the title or not......
30. The temples. 5/5 Really captures and fall of the once powerful temples, and Summoners..... really sad not hearing the Song Of prayer anymore....
31. Discord 3/5 BLAH!!! Hate it.
DISK 2:
1. Gullwings March 4/5 Really funny song!! I really makes you happy!

6. Rikku's theme. 2/5 BLAH!!! All the themes or horrible.
7. Chocobo 1/5 Annoying. Think Barney singing ' Hit me baby one more time ' Yes, that annoying....
8. Paine's theme 1/5 Like i said, the themes do not really seem like the people they potray ( I don't no what that means either )
9. Bevelle's Secrets. 5/5 My 3rd fav. song. Yes, beats out Leblnc again. This song is really haunting and eerie, and potrays Bevell's secrets to a tee.
